Artist Statement

My creative journey began with traditional illustrative materials and has evolved into a practice centered on metalsmithing. Working with metal allows me to create pieces that feel both grounded and expressive. Choosing to work in small batches is an intentional decision. Each piece is made with care, honoring the process as much as the final form. My work tends to evolve as I move through different phases of life, reflecting the shifting landscape of my experiences, travels, and growth.

Nature continues to be a powerful source of inspiration, offering shapes, textures, and quiet strength that find their way into my designs. I also draw from my Caribbean-American heritage, shaped by both African and Indian influences. The colors, patterns, and forms from traditional textiles and mandalas, for example, are central to the language of my work. These motifs allow me to carry forward a visual legacy while creating something entirely my own.

For me, jewelry is more than ornament. It’s a form of resilience. To adorn oneself is to make a choice: to be seen, to celebrate identity, and to carry beauty with intention. Each piece becomes a quiet act of empowerment, a reminder that we are allowed to take up space, to honor where we come from, and to shine despite the weight we sometimes carry. I want my work to help people feel rooted in the earth and in themselves, offering a sense of connection to something natural and enduring.
